The attack was so shocking that a worried passerby who witnessed it called the cops.

Now officers are desperate to track down the young victim so they can check on her welfare.

In a statement Police Scotland said: “Officers are appealing for the public’s assistance after they received a report a young child had been assaulted in Dundee.

“Around 1.10pm today, Monday, 8 April, 2024, a female child, aged no more than four-years-old, was slapped by a woman at a bus stop on South Road, Dundee.

“The child was extremely distressed and upset. Due to the nature of the incident officers are keen to trace the child to ensure she is safe and well.

“Enquiries carried out so far have established that two women were in the area at the time.

“One woman is believed to be pregnant and had dark hair, tied up in a bun. The other lady is believed to be in her 50s with tattoos on both arms.

“There was also a considerable volume of traffic.”

Cops are continuing to scour CCTV as they look to track down the girl.

Constable Conor Burton said: “The child is very young, and we need to know she is safe and well.

“The bus stop is across the road from a large supermarket and the area is usually busy with shoppers.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time, in particular, anyone with any recording equipment to get in touch with us.

“It is imperative we are able to check on the welfare of the child.”
