TWO XL Bullies had to be removed by specially trained cops after fighting on a residential street in Dundee.

The dogs were spotted attacking each other in the Cardross Place area of the city on Sunday.

Police were called in and took away the animals to kennells. It’s understood the fight had not been pre-arranged.

Two women, aged 53 and 36, were charged in connection with the Dangerous Dogs act and the XL Bullies were removed to kennels.

Restrictions around the breed came into force in Scotland earlier this year.

Since February, owners are no longer allowed to breed, sell, exchange, gift, abandon or allow the dogs to stray.

It will still be legal for current owners to keep their pets but they must be muzzled and on a lead when in public.

Even tougher restrictions will come into force from August 1.

From then it will become an offence to own an XL bully without an exemption or having applied for an exemption.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 6.30pm on Saturday, 25 May, to a report of two dogs fighting in the Cardross Place area of Dundee.

“Officers attended and two women, aged 53 and 36, were charged in connection with the Dangerous Dogs Act. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

“The dogs were removed to kennels.”

Last week a mum was mauled to death by one of her XL Bully dogs in Hornchurch, East London.

Beautician Angeline Mahal, 50, is feared to have lain for hours in the hallway of her home where she lived alone with two registered pets.

Armed cops swooped on her semidetached home last Monday afternoon after her visiting sons raised the alarm.

A close family member said the men, who are in their 20s, had battled in vain to save her with CPR.

He revealed he begged her to get rid of the dogs after reports of fatal attacks, adding: “We are heartbroken. Angeline had the dogs from when they were puppies.

“They were properly registered and kept in cages.

“We don’t know the full details but I think only one attacked her.”
